New Mexico County Gets Cleanup Funds for 2012 Fire
Lincoln County is getting $1 million from the Federal Emergency Management Agency for cleanup costs related to the most destructive wildlife in New Mexico’s recorded history.
The Little Bear blaze destroyed more than 250 homes and structures as it raced across nearly 70 square miles last summer. The fire also damaged six watersheds.
The following month, the area saw heavy flooding from runoff across the burn scar.
Lincoln County spent more than $1 million to remove and haul debris as a result of the fire and flooding.
U.S. Sen. Tom Udall announced the funding. The New Mexico Democrat says that as another fire season approaches, communities are still dealing with the devastation caused last year.
