Nevada Highway Patrol Pushing Safety Around Big Rigs in Vegas Area
The Nevada Highway Patrol is planning an enforcement blitz this week in the Las Vegas area to highlight traffic safety around big rig trucks.
Trooper Jeremie Elliott says a tractor-trailer will travel Interstate 15, U.S. Highway 95 and other freeways Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday emblazoned with reminders for vehicle drivers to give commercial motor vehicles room.
Troopers in trucks will watch for speeding and aggressive driving, and contact officers in marked patrol vehicles to stop and issue citations to motorists traveling too closely, tailgating, failing to yield or cutting in front of big rigs.
Motorists may also receive educational handouts, and hear and see public service announcements on radio stations and billboards.
The so-called “Badge on Board” program in Nevada began in 2008. It has included periodic focused enforcement efforts.
