State Unveils Online Tool to Track Natural Hazards

September 26, 2013

The Arizona Geological Survey, in partnership with the state Division of Emergency Management, is hoping a new online tool will help residents identify and mitigate natural hazards.

The new Natural Hazard Viewer of Arizona website is an interactive that focuses on four hazards common to the state – earthquakes, earth fissures, floods and wildfires.

The site describes each hazard in detail with displays on a map.

Officials say it will serve county planners, emergency management offices and water district managers, but it is also free for the public, who can use the “Find Local Hazards” search tool to pinpoint conditions that exist within a three-mile radius of any address.

The site can be accessed at http://data.azgs.az.gov/hazard-viewer .
