Utah Bill Adding 80 MPH Speed Limit Closer to Passing
A bill to add more stretches of Utah highway with a speed limit of 80 miles per hour is closer to becoming law.
The Salt Lake Tribune reports a Senate committee unanimously approved the bill Wednesday.
It advances to the full Senate for a vote. If approved, it would soon move to Gov. Gary Herbert for consideration.
Taylorsville Republican Rep. Jim Dunnigan is sponsoring the bill, which allows Utah’s transportation department to decide what highway sections to increase speed limits.
Utah already has several stretches of highway, mostly in rural areas, where officials raised the speed limit to 80 miles per hour.
