Washington Man Charged in Two False Car Theft Claims

February 28, 2014

Ahmed Alzarook Mesbah was charged on Feb. 25 in King County Superior Court with two counts of insurance fraud, according to Insurance Commissioner Mike Kreidler.

Mesbah is accused of twice reporting a vehicle stolen to the Seattle Police Department and subsequently claiming each vehicle as a loss with GEICO. Investigators determined both vehicles were shipped to Liberia in October 2012.

  • On Dec. 28, 2012, Mesbah filed a motor vehicle theft claim with GEICO for a 1998 Toyota RAV4 valued at $8,860.64. GEICO paid the claim. Mesbah has since repaid GEICO.
  • On April 23, 2013, Mesbah filed a motor vehicle theft claim with GEICO for a 2011 Honda motorcycle, with a value of $11,253.32. GEICO did not pay the claim. The investigation revealed that Mesbah never owned the motorcycle and used falsified Department of Licensing records when he filed the insurance claim.

Mesbah is scheduled to be arraigned on March 19.
