Authorities to Test Sirens in Oak Creek Canyon

Arizona authorities are testing sirens in Sedona and Oak Creek Canyon to let people know what to expect in an actual emergency.

The sirens are set to go off around 2 p.m. Thursday.

A recent wildfire that scorched 31 square miles in Oak Creek Canyon has made the area prone to flooding.

The U.S. Forest Service says it will close all public recreation areas in Oak Creek Canyon, starting July 7, because of the risk of flooding.

Authorities say residents, visitors and business owners should have a spot picked out on high ground where they can retreat during a flood.

Residents of Coconino and Yavapai counties also can get emergency alerts on their phones by signing up online.
