Former NFL Kicker Guilty of Criminal Damage for Stripping Restaurant
Former NFL and University of Arizona kicker Max Zendejas has been sentenced to six years’ probation for his role in damaging a restaurant space he leased from the school.
The 51-year-old Zendejas also was ordered Monday to pay $68,000 restitution.
He pleaded guilty in August to two counts of criminal damage.
Zendejas opened a Mexican restaurant and bar called Zendejas 13 across the street from Arizona Stadium in 2010.
State prosecutors accused Zendejas of stripping the restaurant of a walk-in refrigerator, HVAC system, compressors, ceiling fans and kitchen sinks worth thousands of dollars after the business closed in 2013.
Zendejas played for the Wildcats from 1982 to 1985 and holds the school record for career points with 360.
He spent three seasons in the NFL with Washington and Green Bay.
