Washington Ferry Tacoma Out of Service Until 2015
The Washington state ferry Tacoma that lost power last summer off Bainbridge Island will be out of service until next year.
State ferries spokeswoman Marta Coursey told the Kitsap Sun the Tacoma will remain at the Eagle Harbor maintenance facility through December.
Contract employees are repairing an electrical system damaged when a fuse blew and a surge damaged propulsion controls and cabling. Coursey says there’s no estimate yet of the cost or whether it’s covered by insurance.
The 460-foot ferry had to be towed to Bainbridge Island on July 29. The 405 passengers and 138 vehicles were safely unloaded.
