Arizona’s London Bridge Temporarily Fixed

December 17, 2014

Temporary repairs to London Bridge are in place following a weekend accident which took out some of the Lake Havasu City landmark’s railing.

The Today’s News-Herald reports that city workers on Saturday temporarily replaced 40 feet of granite railing with plywood and barricades.

A man Friday night lost control of his truck, which drove up onto a curb and knocked part of the railing into Bridgewater Channel.

Police said roads were slippery because of rain.

City Traffic Engineer Mark Clark says permanent repairs may take months because the city will have to put the project up for bid.

Lake Havasu City founder Robert McCulloch bought the bridge from the city of London in 1968 for approximately $2 million and had it brought piece by piece to Lake Havasu City.
