Nevada Traffic Deaths Rise in 2014, Still Down From Peak
State officials say the number of people who died in crashes in Nevada went up in 2014 compared with the year before, but it’s still down significantly from its peak in 2006.
The Nevada Department of Transportation reported 284 traffic deaths in 2014, which is up from the 259 reported in 2013 but way down from a peak of 432 in 2006.
The latest number is preliminary in part because some people injured in crashes in 2014 might later die of those injuries.
NDOT says traffic deaths in the small rural counties of Churchill, Lander, Storey and Humboldt counties are up more than 200 percent. Pedestrian and motorcycle fatalities ticked up slightly.
State officials have been running a safety campaign called Zero Fatalities with the goal of eliminating roadway deaths.
