Weather Service to Investigate Gig Harbor Tornado Report
The National Weather Service office in Seattle, Wash., says it will send a team Monday or Tuesday to look for damage at Gig Harbor and determine whether a wind event Sunday afternoon was a tornado.
Meteorologist Josh Smith says the office received reports of branches and small trees blown down, broken windows and loose objects such as kayaks blowing around.
There are no reports of injuries.
KOMO reports residents reported seeing a small twister moving across Highway 16 and into Puget Sound.
Smith says the survey team will check to see if the damage is the result of straight-line or rotating winds.
Washington typically has one or two small tornadoes a year.
