Rochester, N.Y. Man Sentenced to Prison for Reported Fraud
Anthony Allen was sentenced to serve a term of two to four years in New York State Prison by Judge Patricia Marks in Monroe County Court, as a second felony offender, following his guilty plea on Nov. 6, 2002 to charges of grand larceny involving insurance fraud.
According to a bulletin from the New York State Insurance Department, Allen, of Rochester, NY, was initially charged on May 2, 2002 by the Department’s Frauds Bureau and New York State Police with Insurance Fraud and Grand Larceny in connection with a fraudulent burglary and personal contents claim that he reported.
In support of his claim, Allen reportedly submitted a receipt dated June 3, 1999 to his insurer in the amount of $5,000 from a Rochester area jewelry store for a diamond ring that he had reported as stolen. The investigation revealed that the jewelry store had never sold the diamond ring to Allen, and had been closed since the early 1990’s.
He has been returned to the Monroe County Jail and is awaiting transfer to the New York State Department of Correctional Services. Allen was additionally ordered to pay restitution to State Farm Insurance Company in the amount of $2,500 which he received as a result of submitting the fraudulent claim.
