Pa. Gov. Reports Latest Round of Federal Fire Grants
State Fire Commissioner Ed Mann announced the latest round of federal fire grants of more than $545,000 to four fire companies in Pennsylvania.
“I want to thank the Federal Emergency Management Agency, Office of Homeland Security and the U.S. Fire Administration for making these funds available to our local fire companies,” Mann said. “These grants will help prepare our first responders to better serve our communities.”
In Pennsylvania, 1,778 fire departments applied for grant money.
Authorized by the federal FIRE Act, the program allocated $750 million this year in direct assistance in support of the nation’s firefighters and the services they deliver. To date, Pennsylvania has received more than $33.2 million during the 2004 fiscal year in federal fire grant money.
“It is important for fire departments to be able to purchase tools,
equipment and apparatus and to develop training to safely respond to
emergencies,” Mann said.
The following fire departments have been announced as award recipients in the latest round: Mountville Fire Co. #1 (Lancaster) – $66,600 grant; Volant Volunteer Fire Co. (Lawrence) – $171,000 grant; Humane Fire Co. #1 (Montgomery) – $83,279 grant; Washington Fire Co. (Schuylkill) – $225,000 grant. The total amount of grants was $545,879.00.
