State Police: 6 Dead, 255 Injured in Pa. New Year’s Weekend Crashes
Six people were killed in traffic crashes investigated by State Police during the three-day New Year’s holiday driving period, State Police Commissioner Col. Jeffrey Miller reported. Three of the fatalities were alcohol-related.
In addition to the six fatalities, 255 people were injured in the 761 crashes to which troopers responded. Miller said 71 of the crashes were alcohol-related. Four of the six persons killed were not wearing seat belts.
Miller said troopers issued 2,237 speeding citations, arrested 221 people for driving under the influence, cited 105 individuals for not wearing seat belts and issued citations to eight persons for failing to secure children in child safety seats.
The report does not include statistics on incidents to which other law enforcement agencies in the state responded.
Miller said the official holiday driving period covered Dec. 30 through Jan. 1.
During last New Year’s three-day holiday driving period, four people died and 185 others were injured in 466 crashes to which State Police responded.
