Mass. Father, Daughter Charged in Motor Vehicle Insurance Scam
A Revere, Massachusetts father and daughter were both charged with fraudulently causing and reporting an automobile accident in an effort to claim insurance money, Attorney General Tom Reilly announced.
George Chandler, 49, of Revere, was arraigned in Suffolk Superior Court on one count each of automobile insurance fraud, attempted larceny and conspiracy to commit larceny over $250. Tina Baker, 28, also of Revere, will be arraigned on the same charges on Jan. 13.
The charges allege that Baker reported to the Liberty Mutual Insurance Company that her Lexus had been involved in a head-on collision with a Monte Carlo on Nov. 5, 2003 on Morris Street in Revere.
Liberty Mutual requested an accident reconstruction analysis of both vehicles and determined that both cars were not damaged in a head-on collision the way that Baker had allegedly reported to her insurance carrier.
The investigation subsequently uncovered that Chandler and Baker allegedly fabricated the accident, made the fraudulent insurance claim, and attempted to collect insurance benefits that would have paid for the damage to both vehicles.
