Report: 30% of Pa. Bridges Deficient
About 30 percent of all locally owned bridges in Pennsylvania are considered structurally deficient.
That’s according to new bridge safety rating information released by the state Transportation Department. It covers about 6,400 local bridges that measure 20 feet or longer.
Department spokesman Steve Chizmar says the list classifies nearly 2,000 bridges as structurally deficient.
The agency assigns a sufficiency rating to each bridge on a scale of 0 to 100, with 0 being the worst.
The list is available at the department’s Web site, www.dot.state.pa.us.
