Two N.H. Men Indicted on Insurance Fraud Over Repair Claims

Two New Hampshire men face charges they defrauded their auto insurance company by filing false repair claims.

Attorney General Kelly Ayotte said Travis Powell, 31, of Kensington faces one count of insurance fraud. She said he made a claim to Progressive Northern Insurance Co. in March 2006 for damages to an air condensing unit he said happened when he slid into the vehicle with his truck. Ayotte said Powell knew the accident happened before he had the insurance policy.

In the second case, Richard Currie, 37, of Brentwood faces two counts of insurance fraud. Ayotte said he filed false claims with Progressive for two trucks he said had been flooded after he dropped them off for repairs.

The charges are felonies which carry a maximum penalty of 71/2 to 15 years in prison and a fine of $4,000 or an amount not to exceed double the property gained in the commission of the crime.

The two men are to be arraigned in Rockingham Superior Court on Oct. 25.
