Prosecutors of Pa. Judge on Insurance Fraud Allege Lawyer Conflict
Federal prosecutors want suspended state Superior Court Judge Michael Joyce to get a new lawyer, saying his lawyer has a potential conflict of interest.
Joyce is accused of bilking two insurance companies out of $440,000 in an automobile accident claim. Joyce has pleaded not guilty.
Prosecutors say Erie attorney David Ridge represents or has represented at least two potential government witnesses.
Ridge says he’ll discuss the request with Joyce.
The state Supreme Court placed Joyce on paid leave after his indictment. After his indictment, Joyce abandoned plans to seek a second 10-year term in the November election.
