Adirondacks Avalanche Warning Issued
State environmental officials said the recent snowstorm increased the risk of avalanches in parts of the Adirondack Mountains, New York.
The Department of Environmental Conservation Commissioner warned anyone planning to visit the Adirondack back country to prepare for avalanche conditions, especially in the High Peaks region.
Avalanche danger increases during and immediately after major snowfalls. Parts of the Adirondacks recentlyt received more than a foot of snow.
Visitors are urged to take necessary precautions, such as knowing rescue techniques and traveling with others. More information on avalanche safety can be found on the DEC Web site at www.dec.ny.gov.
