Pa. Man Gets Probation for Helping to Bilk Insurance Company

A Pennsylvania man has been sentenced to three years’ probation for defrauding an insurance company with the help of a chiropractor.

A federal judge in Pittsburgh also ordered 31-year-old Brandon Burns of Murrysville to pay back Highmark Blue Cross/Blue Shield more than $64,000.

Burns pleaded guilty in November 2005 to health care fraud.

Prosecutors say from 1996 to 2002, Burns cooperated with a chiropractor, who submitted false claims worth $64,000 to the insurance company for fictitious treatment.

Prosecutors say the unnamed chiropractor paid Burns about $17,000 for his cooperation.
