Connecticut Labor Agency Reports Losing Unemployment Files

Connecticut labor officials say records with confidential information on about 2,100 people have been lost and might have been mistakenly shredded.

The files contained copies of letters informing applicants that they were ineligible for the unemployment insurance. They were dated between May 2 and May 20 and contained names, addresses and Social Security numbers.

Officials at the state Department of Labor in Wethersfield said Monday that they strongly believe the documents were inadvertently shredded with other records, making the likelihood of identity fraud remote.

However, the department is offering two years of credit monitoring services, fraud alerts and identity theft protection to the affected customers.
