Connecticut Officials Find Tainted Cookies in West Hartford Food Store
Connecticut officials say cookies made in China that were contaminated with the industrial chemical melamine were found at a West Hartford food shop, and they’re warning people not to eat them.
The Department of Consumer Protection says its investigators found Koala’s March creme-filled cookies at A Dong market on Friday, and testing showed melamine amounts above limits set by the federal government.
Melamine is blamed for killing four infants and sickening 54,000 children in China. It’s used to make plastics and fertilizers.
Michigan-based Lotte USA Inc. is recalling the cookies from U.S. shelves and says it’s not aware of any illnesses associated with the products.
Connecticut officials say they suspect other stores in the state may have been selling Koala’s March cookies.
