Sargent Elected Chair of N.Y. Alliance Against Fraud
John T. Sargent, director of the special investigation unit (SIU) of MetLife Auto & Home, a subsidiary of MetLife Inc. was elected chair of the New York Alliance Against Insurance Fraud (NYAAIF) at the alliance’s annual meeting on Nov. 17 in New York, N.Y.
Sargent has served on the NYAAIF Board of Directors for the past seven years, as secretary from 2002-2006 and vice chair from 2007-2008.
As director of the SIU he is responsible for the areas of fraud prevention, detection and investigation nationwide. In addition to the Auto & Home subsidiary, he oversees the SIU for several areas within MetLife, including dental, group disability, long term care and group life claims.
Sargent joined MetLife Auto & Home in 1995 as a manager within its special investigation unit. In 1999, he assumed the position of corporate manager of the SIU, and became director in 2004.
Sargent serves on the Board of Governors for the Insurance Fraud Bureau of Massachusetts, is a member of the Insurance Fraud Management Advisory Panel, and is a past board member of the Insurance Committee for Arson Control. He has spoken at numerous national conferences on the topic of insurance fraud. In 2001, the Massachusetts Insurance Fraud Bureau recognized him for his “outstanding and invaluable contributions toward the fight against insurance fraud.”
