Investigators: New York Biker Bought Insurance after Crashing
Authorities say an upstate New York motorcyclist waited a little too long to buy insurance.
Now they’re charging 22-year-old Michael Marrone of Marcy with insurance fraud. Prosecutors say Marrone crashed his motorcycle on a rural Oneida County road in May and then used his cell phone to buy insurance from a State Farm insurance agent while he was at the scene.
An hour later, he called the insurance company back to report the accident and file an $8,800 claim. The claim was denied.
If he is convicted, Marrone could be sentenced to as many as three years in prison. He was released pending an appearance in town of Marcy Court. A court clerk did not know if Marrone has a lawyer.
