Rhode Island School System Settles Lawsuit for $150K
The Cumberland, Rhode Island school district has settled a lawsuit brought by a former secretary for $150,000.
Patricia Scullin had worked for the district for nearly three decades when she was fired in 2004.
She claimed in her lawsuit that former Superintendent Joseph Nasif Jr. created a “hostile working environment” that included speaking to her loudly and aggressively and repeatedly made “unfounded” criticisms of her job performance. She claimed she was wrongfully fired.
The Providence Journal reports that Nasif’s defense claimed he was dissatisfied with Scullin’s job performance.
The school district will cover $130,000 of the bill with the balance covered by insurance.
