Ex-Student in New Jersey Awarded $64K in Harassment Case
Jurors have awarded a former student $64,000 in compensatory damages over harassment by her English teacher at New Jersey’s prestigious Peddie School.
The jury ruled on Tuesday that the school failed to stop the harassing e-mails Brittany Tarabour received from Steven Lloyd.
Tarabour said she received between five and 30 messages a day from the man, who also served as her academic adviser, crew coach and dorm supervisor.
She says they weren’t sexual in nature. But she says Lloyd professed his love even though she was just 16 when the incidents occurred in 2005 and 2006.
The teacher was forced to resign after she reported the e-mails to school officials in 2006.
