Accident Leaves Delaware Construction Worker Trapped
Authorities say a construction worker was treated for non-life-threatening injuries after being trapped in a hole at a Wilmington construction site.
Investigators said Richard Lopes, 35, of Monroe Township, N.J., was in an 18-foot hole that was being repaired at a site on Gov. Printz Boulevard when a co-worker attempted to connect the bucket on a backhoe Thursday.
The ground gave way underneath the bucket, which slid down the embankment and trapped Lopes.
Rescuers worked for about two hours to pull Lopes from the hole. He was airlifted to Christiana Hospital in Newark and treated for unspecified injuries.
