Feds Sue New York Landlord over Harassment of Women
The U.S. government has sued a superintendent and a landlord of Manhattan residential buildings, saying female residents were subjected to sexual harassment.
The lawsuit filed Wednesday in Manhattan said the Fair Housing Act was violated when building owner Stanley Katz failed to stop a superintendent from demanding sex in exchange for rent reductions. It said the superintendent withheld the delivery of mail and apartment repairs and threatened the tenants with eviction when his sexual demands were refused.
The lawsuit said the superintendent, a registered sex offender, had worked at buildings on the Upper West Side for more than eight years.
A lawyer for Katz did not immediately respond to a call for comment.
