Pennsylvania College to Pay $1M to Settle Harassment Suit
Lafayette College in eastern Pennsylvania has agreed to pay $1 million to settle a federal sexual harassment lawsuit.
The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission filed the complaint in September 2008.
The agency represented five female public safety employees who said a supervisor subjected them to repeated harassment.
Under a settlement approved by a U.S. district judge Thursday, each woman will receive $200,000. Lafayette also agreed to provide annual training for all managers; it did not admit liability.
Debra Lawrence, an acting regional attorney for the EEOC in Philadelphia, says the supervisor was later fired.
Lafayette spokesman Roger Clow says the school is pleased to amicably resolve the claims involving a former employee.
Lafayette is a private liberal arts college in Easton, Pa.; it has about 2,400 students.
