Vacant Connecticut Mill Goes up in Flames
A vacant mill in Norwich went up in flames in an early morning blaze that drew nearly 100 firefighters from 18 area fire companies.
Authorities say no one was injured in the fire at the Capehart Mill off North Main Street, which was reported at about 3 a.m. Tuesday.
The Norwich Bulletin reports that it’s the fourth fire in the city in three days, and Norwich Fire Chief Kenneth Scandariato has asked police to watch other possible arson targets.
The fire at the 100-year-old building was under control but still smoldering Tuesday morning. The cause is under investigation.
Environmental and health officials are testing for potential water and air contamination, and Scandariato has asked federal authorities to help with the investigation.
