Student Arrested After Fires Again Strike Pennsylvania Dorm
A student is in custody following a series of fires inside a northeastern Pennsylvania dorm.
Nineteen-year-old Ryan Burke was arrested hours after two fires broke out early Tuesday in the dorm on the campus of East Stroudsburg University.
Burke was arraigned on charges including arson and criminal mischief. Bail was set at $100,000.
The Stroudsburg Pocono Record reported Burke is a resident adviser.
Police say Burke admitted setting fires on Tuesday and Friday. The newspaper reported a similar fire was set the previous week, but it was unclear if any charges would be filed in that case.
Campus police quickly put out Tuesday’s fires and evacuated about 320 students from Hawthorn Hall. No injuries were reported.
It was not clear if Burke had an attorney.
