Pennsylvania House Explosion Still Under Investigation
A state police fire marshal and state investigators are still trying to figure out what caused a house explosion in northwestern Pennsylvania.
Police say Thomas Federspiel was outside his house and suffered only minor injuries when the residence exploded about 7:20 a.m. Monday in Bradford Township. That’s about 130 miles northeast of Pittsburgh, near the New York border.
Police say officials from National Fuel Gas examined the gas distribution system inside and outside the home and found no leaks or other problems. Officials from the state Public Utility Commission, the Department of Environmental Protection, and the McKean County Emergency Management Agency are also investigating.
The blast caused $250,000 damage, though police say the homeowner was able to rescue two dogs from the home after the explosion and fire.
