Vermont Investigators Say Barre Town Fire Was Arson
Vermont State Police fire investigators say a blaze that heavily damaged two Barre Town apartment buildings was deliberately set by two juveniles.
Officials say the fire, reported at about 5:30 p.m. Thursday, began in a garage between the two apartment houses and quickly spread to both buildings.
More than 120 firefighters from 14 fire departments were needed to extinguish the fire. Up to 12 families were left homeless, but there were no injuries.
Police say criminal charges against the two juveniles are pending.
Damage to the two buildings and the garage was estimated at $400,000.
