New Jersey Town Settles Suit Stemming from Sandwich Theft
A northern New Jersey town has paid $35,000 to settle a federal lawsuit brought by a former police officer who was forced to resign for stealing $29 worth of breakfast sandwiches from a convenience store.
In the suit filed last year, Christopher Stahl had claimed he wasn’t paid $61,199 for accrued sick and personal time he earned while serving with the Rockaway Township police force.
But the Daily Record of Parsippany recently learned that the two sides reached a settlement that resulted in the suit being dismissed in late August.
Stahl had agreed in 2008 to quit after 14 years on the force, where he reached the rank of sergeant.
The agreement was part of his guilty plea to a disorderly persons charge that he took the sandwiches from a Quick Chek store without paying for them.
