Western Mass. Country Club Goes Up in Flames
Authorities say the investigation into the cause of a fire that destroyed a western Massachusetts country club could take more than a week to complete.
No injuries were reported when the Country Club of Greenfield’s century-old clubhouse went up in flames early Saturday. Firefighters from dozens of communities helped douse the blaze, which left only the chimney and a few walls standing.
Greenfield fire Capt. Andrew Garvin says the building’s age, wood construction and open floor plan made fighting the fire more difficult. The investigation into its cause remained open Sunday.
Club members and officials say they plan to rebuild.
