5 Hurt in New Jersey Dump Truck 8 Car Pileup
Five people were injured when a dump truck coming down a steep hill on a northern New Jersey highway collided with eight cars and then overturned.
Authorities say most of the victims sustained head and neck injuries, none of which were considered life-threatening.
Riverdale Police Chief Kevin Smith tells The Record that the dump truck driver, whose name wasn’t disclosed, will receive multiple summonses in the crash. The driver apparently wasn’t injured in the crash.
The accident occurred around 8 a.m. on southbound Route 23, just north of the Route 287 – an area Smith said is “notorious” for dump truck accidents.
Smith said the driver told police his brakes failed, but a state police inspection found the brakes were working.
