Family of Bicyclist Sues 2 Connecticut Officers
Two Norfolk, Conn., police officers are being sued by the family of a man who was killed while riding his bicycle.
The wrongful death lawsuit was filed this week against officers Joey Bennett Jr. and Derek Folston. It seeks $33 million in damages.
According to court records, Folston’s police vehicle hit 34-year-old Donnell Worsley as he rode his bicycle in July 2010. Worsley died two months later.
The officers were convicted of misdemeanor reckless driving and are on indefinite suspension without pay.
The Virginian-Pilot reports Bennett attorney Jon Babineau calls the lawsuit “significantly flawed” and not supported by the facts. The newspaper says Folston and his attorney didn’t immediately return messages seeking comment.
