Pedestrians Hurt in New Jersey Train-Truck Crash Settle Suit

Three pedestrians injured when a slow-moving cargo train hit a tow truck at a southern New Jersey railroad crossing in 2008 have received settlements totaling $1 million.

Keith Zaid, a lawyer representing the three injured women, tells The Press of Atlantic City that the settlement was finalized on Thursday. One victim will receive $750,000 for her injuries, while the other two will get $200,000 and $50,000 respectively.

Authorities say the crash occurred when the driver of the flatbed tow truck drove around a car stopped at the crossing. The truck spun after being bumped by the train, then struck the pedestrians who were walking nearby.

The tow truck driver and his passenger were also injured, but have since recovered.

No one on the train was injured.
