Virginia County Closes School Gym Due to Cracks

Louisa County, Va., school officials have closed a gymnasium because of cracks in the walls.

Media outlets report that the cracks in the gym at Trevilians Elementary School were found last week. School officials closed Trevilians on Friday.

Louisa County Schools Superintendent Deborah Pettit says officials believe aftershocks from last summer’s 5.8-magnitude earthquake caused the cracks.

Students at another elementary school damaged by the earthquake are attending classes in trailers at Trevilians. Physical education classes for students at both schools will be held outside or in other areas of the school.

Louisa County Public Schools spokeswoman Jaclyn O’Laughlin says the cost of repairs hasn’t been determined.
