Pennsylvania Diet Supplement Firms Closed for Inspection
The U.S. Justice Department has closed a dietary supplement company based in Pittsburgh, Pa., citing numerous manufacturing violations.
A statement released Tuesday by the department said ATF Fitness Products Inc. and its affiliate, Manufacturing ATF Dedicated Excellence Inc., will remain closed until they pass U.S. Food and Drug Administration inspections.
The department said the firms make more than 400 dietary supplements. Inspectors said the companies failed to clean equipment, maintain proper records, and label products correctly.
The statement also said the companies failed to notify the FDA of consumers who suffered possible ill effects from the products. It said the firms have a history of violations and warnings dating to 2001.
ATF did not immediately return messages Tuesday seeking comment.
