Police in Vermont Town to Focus on Pedestrian Safety
Police in a Vermont town that has seen a rash of pedestrian accidents is cracking down on pedestrian safety.
Two pedestrians have died in Brattleboro in the last two months. There have also been a number of non-fatal accidents involving pedestrians.
Brattleboro police say officers will be stopping vehicles and pedestrians found to be violating pedestrian laws. In egregious cases, police will issue tickets.
Police are reminding people that a pedestrian crossing the street at a crosswalk has the right of way. If a pedestrian is crossing the street somewhere other than a crosswalk, the vehicle has the right of way.
Pedestrians should also stay on the sidewalk. If there is no sidewalk, pedestrians should stay on the left side of the road.
