President Declares Virginia a Major Disaster After Storm
President Barack Obama has declared a disaster in Virginia after severe weather and strong winds lashed the state a few weeks ago.
The disaster declaration orders federal aid to help the state and local recovery efforts. Virginia was hit by back-to-back storms from June 29 to July 1.
Straight-line winds of up to 80 miles were reported and hundreds of thousands of customers lost electricity. At least seven people were killed in the storms and a dozen hurt.
