High Winds Cause Pennsylvania Pavilion Collapse
Officials say a pavilion being used for shelter during severe weather collapsed at a central Pennsylvania park, and 10 to 12 people suffered minor injuries, including several children.
Authorities say several dozen people attending a baseball game Friday night sought shelter when the storms swept through Paradise Township in Lancaster County. High winds led to the pavilion’s collapse.
State police tell WGAL-TV that 10 to 12 people were taken to a hospital, mostly children with minor injuries. One man is reported to have broken his leg and another cut his head. A hospital official declined to release information about their condition.
Emergency Management Director Randall Gockley says the pavilion was 40 feet by 40 feet.
