New York Troopers Issue 33,000 Tickets Through Holidays
New York State Police say they issued more than 33,000 traffic tickets and arrested 538 people for driving while intoxicated statewide in a campaign that began Dec. 14 and continued through the holidays until Jan. 1.
Part of a national campaign, troopers say they operated 29 sobriety checkpoints, a dozen details targeting underage drinking, 10 “saturation details” targeting a specific area for drunken drivers and 41 additional dedicated local patrols against drunken driving.
State police say their results included 22 arrests for providing alcohol to minors and 12 related penal law violations.
In the greater Albany area, Troop G reports 3,077 tickets issued, including 992 for speeding and 66 for DWI, with two fatal crashes during the period.
