Pennsylvania Reports Jump in Insurer Reported Fraud Claims
Pennsylvania hit a new yearly high in reported insurance fraud crimes. Of the 3,274 fraud referrals received by the 11 law enforcement agencies funded by the Pennsylvania Insurance Fraud Prevention Authority (IFPA), 2,302 referrals came from insurers, 240 from other state agencies and 732 from consumers.
In compiling yearly results, insurer fraud reporting doubled over that seen in any year prior to 2008 and is presently growing by three to five percent each year.
Law enforcement’s incoming workload in 2012 was 77 percent higher than was experienced in any year prior to 2008. During 2012, the arrests of 423 offenders were reported and 394 prosecutions were completed.
