Sandy-Damaged House Hits Another During Lifting

August 27, 2013

A house in a New Jersey neighborhood ravaged by Superstorm Sandy that was being raised for flood protection slid off its foundation and into a neighboring house Friday.

Now both homes will have to be demolished.

Both were unoccupied and no one was hurt.

Authorities say the house being elevated slid while being moved and struck an adjacent house. Both had been flooded during the Oct. 29 storm, taking on 5 to 56 feet of water.

Numerous other homes have been elevated in Highlands without incident.
