$1.5M to Help Replace Adirondack Fire Station
New York officials say a $1.5 million grant will help an Adirondack community replace a fire station destroyed in 2011 by the remains of Hurricane Irene.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Wednesday that the funding for the Town of Upper Jay’s new fire station at a safer location comes from a Community Development Block Grant.
The project will cost $2.8 million, including the purchase of new land, demolition and construction. The town was able to come up with $1.3 million from insurance and other sources. The state grant will cover the remainder.
Cuomo said the project will serve more than 1,000 residents in the district and ensure that the region is better prepared.
