Fraudulent Insurance Policies Lead to Jail Time for Virginia Woman

Following a 12-month investigation by the Virginia State Police (VSP), a Virginia woman will have to spend four months in jail and make restitution in the amount of $18,295.12 for stealing insurance policy commissions.

Based on information from Aflac Insurance, Senior Special Agent J.R. Elgin Jr., with the Insurance Fraud Unit out of the VSP Salem Field Office, opened an investigation on Adrian Nicole Womack, currently of Virginia Beach, which resulted in her being charged with seven counts of Obtaining Money by False Pretense. Her business operated out of Danville when she committed the fraud, so she was charged in Danville Circuit Court.

Womack, an insurance associate with Aflac, sold more than 211 insurance policies to 43 different people in an effort to receive advance commissions. She received commissions in the amount of $23,053.66 The investigation revealed no payments were made on the policies, and the applications were submitted without the approval of the applicants. Womack submitted the false polices just for the commissions.

Womack was found guilty of four of the seven charges on Jan. 24, 2014. She was sentenced on Feb. 24, 2014 to two years on each of the four charges with 23 months suspended on each charge for a total jail time of four months. She will also have to make restitution in the amount of $18,295.12 plus court costs. The remaining three Obtaining Money by False Pretense changes were dismissed.
