New York Worker Injured by 900 lbs. of Glass
Authorities say a 25-year-old man is hospitalized after nearly a half ton of glass fell on him while he was working at a Hudson Valley home improvement business.
Police in the Orange County town of Wallkill tell the Times Herald-Record of Middletown say Jose Saraza of Middletown was working Wednesday morning at Anthony’s Custom Closets, a company that also makes shower enclosures.
Officials say a dozen sections of tempered glass weighing about 900 pounds each fell on him, causing serious injuries. A co-worker found Saraza unconscious with glass on top of him.
Saraza was airlifted to St. Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie, where he’s in stable condition.
Police say there were no witnesses to the accident, which is being investigated by the town’s building department and the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
