57 Motorcyclists Cited at Long Island Safety Checkpoint
More than 50 motorcyclists were issued summonses during a safety checkpoint on Long Island, New York.
Suffolk County police say 134 motorcycles were stopped between 11:05 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. on Sunday.
The checkpoint was set up on the eastbound lanes of the Long Island Expressway between exits 65 and 66 in Yaphank.
Police say 57 summonses were issued for safety violations. They included unlicensed operators, uninspected and unregistered motorcycles, modified exhaust systems and unapproved helmets.
One motorist was arrested after he allegedly attempted to avoid the checkpoint.
